When your home and your office happen to be one and the same, it can be tough to ever truly let go, unless you actually leave the building. And finding a spot to unwind at home can be even more difficult when you’re living in a small space.
After remaining inside my condo for four days straight, it occurred to me that I have nowhere to go just go get away…no means of escape…
Unless you count my Wednesday night callanetics classes, an hour of stretching and pulsing that simultaneously relaxes me and deeply works my muscles.
I’d be interested in hearing how all of you escape the daily grind. Is there a special spot in your home, or is there a place you flee to in your car when things get especially stressful?
It’s great to have a dog and get out and take her for a walk several times day. It’s good for the dog and for me!
I know how you feel! I’m with David – I take an afternoon walk every day. No iPod. Just me and my head. Rain or shine.
I used to live in Austin which had a multitude of great coffee shops to escape to. I live in London now, but the coffee shop culture isn’t the same. It’s one of the things I miss most from the States!
I usually take my daughter or my wife shopping. It lets me get out of the house and is usually accompanied by some laughs and general cutting up in the store, due to which, we have been asked not to return to a particular store…
@David & Monica: I should totally drag my butt out of the condo and take a walk…maybe do a bit of hula hooping at the park up the block (I used to take a hoop dancing class…). I suppose it makes sense that my most productive day lately was the day I woke up early to vote. It got me out and about, and into the fresh air. When I made it back to the condo, I was totally raring to go.
@Sal: You crack me up. And what a lucky wife and daughter you have!
Steph, Funny you should mention getting an “early start” to the day. Admittedly I am a morning person, but I find that the most productive part of my day is in the morning. Maybe you should make it a habit!
Hi Steph- I have to go running outside when I need to get away from everything. My college has a great path to run along the Cayuga Lake and over the gorges!
@Jennifer: That sounds gorgeous, and I am jealous. Suburban NJ doesn’t offer quite the same levels of fine scenery.
