Need some help around the office, but can’t afford an in-house assistant? Mr. P to the rescue!
Product Placement: Plug It In
At the moment, the items I have that plug in with USB cable are my scanner, my digital camera, my webcam, my iPod and, of course, my flash drive. As I have a mere two USB ports on my computer, located on the back of it, swapping these items in and out can be a royal pain in the ass.
Freelancedom Survival Kit: An Addendum
Just the other day, I posted about the must-have items for the freelancer on the go. Later that day, I followed a link to ReadWriteWeb, which had posted on a similar topic, but with a digital twist.
Product Placement: Freelancedom Survival Kit
Over at Nerve, I blog about products you need, products you’ll love, and products you probably don’t need but, gosh, they’re so nifty! (My work there gave me the idea to have a regular products feature here at Freelancedom.) During the course of all this blogging, I’ve found many prepackaged “survival” kits, which got me thinking… what could a freelancer on the go use in a survival kit? After the jump, the 6 items I came up with.
Product Placement: Be a Superhero on the Information Superhighway
Batman had his utility belt. But all you need is this:
Product Placement: Fuel Your Freelance Career
Is it awful of me to suggest that a good cup of coffee is a necessity when it comes to surviving the work day? I mean, I don’t want you to end up like my friend Dana, who likes to argue that his 5+ cups of coffee per day count toward his daily water intake.
Still, nothing picks me up like that one cup of bavarian chocolate coffee I have every day in the late morning. Pick up a coffee pot on the cheap ($29.99) and, when you feel yourself slowing down, indulge in a cuppa.
Product Placement: Laptop Bags That Cost More Than Your Laptop
Or at least they cost more than my old laptop…the one I picked up at a computer show a few years ago for a couple hundred bucks. I recently got rid of that thing, and just borrow my husband’s from time to time, but I still have a thing for sleek and functional laptop bags.
The one above is $285. After the jump. another gorgeous bag I can’t afford, and don’t even need:
Product Placement: Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000
The other month, as a favor to my cousin, I photographed a corporate event that her company was hosting. As payment, I received a gift card to Circuit City, and decided to invest in a webcam for blogging purposes. See my very first video post — in addition to pricing and purchasing information — after the jump.
Product Placement: Pretty Paperclips
During my time as a Modern Materialista, I’ve continued to find office products that I may not need, but sorta want anyway.
‘Cause they’re pretty. Or clever. Or shiny. Or sparkly.
I like these paper clips from See Jane Work ($6) because they’re whimsical and colorful, while still being practical. Check out your options after the jump:
Product Placement: The Digital Camera
Eight years ago, I bought my first SLR (single-lens reflex camera). It was a Canon Rebel, the same camera my editor at the Pennington Post had, and owning it made it nearly impossible for me to take bad photos. That $500 — paid back to my parents in installments — was worth every penny.
Now I have the Nikon D40X, a gift from my family, and it’s been proving indispensable to my work since the moment I received it.
